World War I affected fashion

He saw a businesswoman in Coco and helped her acquire her location at 31 Rue Cambon in Paris by 1910.[1] There was already a couture shop in the building, and so Coco was not allowed in her lease to produce couture dresses. In 1912, Coco Chanel opened her first millinery shop in Paris and in 1913, Chanel introduced women's sportswear at her new boutique in Deauville and Biarritz, France. Chanel's designs tended to be simple rather than opulent in look. She detested the fashions of women who came to these resort towns. World War I affected fashion. Coal was scarce and women were doing the factory jobs that men had held prior to the war; they needed warm clothing that would stand up to working conditions.

Chanel fossella's designs from this era were affected by the new idea of women's sports. During World War I, Coco opened another larger shop on Rue Cambon in front of the H?tel Ritz Paris. Here she sold flannel blazers, straight linen skirts, sailor tops, long jersey sweaters and skirt-jackets.With her financial situation precarious in the early years of her design career, Chanel purchased jersey primarily for its low cost. The fabric draped well and suited Chanel's designs, which were simple, practical, and often inspired by men's wear, especially the uniforms prevalent when World War I broke out in 1914. Her fashion became known in 1915 throughout France for its simplicity. In the years 1915 and 1917, Harper's Bazaar mentioned that Chanel's name was "on the list of every buyer."Her boutique at 31 Rue Cambon previewed simple day dress-and-coat ensembles and black evening dresses in lace or jet-embroidered tulle (she also piled cushions of feathers, fur, and metallic fabrics on the sofas in the gray and amber salons).

Coco Chanel established her reputation as a meticulous fashion couturier. Following the fashion trends of the 1920s, Chanel produced beaded dresses. The suit in two or three pieces created in 1920 remains a modern fashion look. The suit was advocated as the "new uniform for afternoon and evening as far back as 1915." 1921 saw the introduction of her first perfume Chanel No. 5. Earnest Beaux created the fragrance for Coco and she named it after her lucky number 5. The fragrance was a success. The signature scent was a result of her belief in superstitions; she was scheduled to show her collection on the fifth day of the fifth month. Coco informed Harper's Bazaar, "simplicity is the keynote of all true elegance", in 1923.

Chanel has catered to tastes in items such as simple suits, dresses, women's pants, and costume jewelry. Coco Chanel's vision was to replace such opulent, 'sexy' pieces with items which conveyed casual elegance.

Today, Chanel is most famous for the "little black dress". According to Forbes, the privately held House of Chanel is jointly owned by Alain Wertheimer and Gerard Wertheimer who are the great-grandsons of the early (1924) Chanel partner Pierre Wertheimer.

The company has had many high-profile celebrities as spokesmodels, including Inès de la Fressange, Catherine Deneuve (1970s and '80s Chanel No. 5 spokesmodel), Carole Bouquet (1990s Chanel No. 5 spokesmodel), Vanessa Paradis (spokesmodel for Coco Perfume), Nicole Kidman (early 2000s Chanel No. 5 spokesmodel), Anna Mouglalis (2006 Chanel Allure Sensuelle spokesmodel), Audrey Tautou (current Chanel No.5 spokesmodel), Keira Knightley (current spokesmodel for Coco Mademoiselle), and most famously, Marilyn Monroe (1950s Chanel No. 5 spokesmodel) pictured splashing herself with Chanel No. 5.

The image is certainly the most famous of all Chanel advertisements, and continues to be one of the most popular advertisement photos in the history of marketing, used in countless biographies, and still selling in large quantities as a poster and art piece using Marilyn Monroe as the model. Marilyn Monroe brought this perfume to fame.

Ian Poulter tweeted some taunts

World No 3 picks Pittsburgh to clinch Super Bowl over the Packers on Feb 6
LA JOLLA, California - Tiger Woods conducted a Twitter exchange for about 40 minutes on Tuesday on his way to Torrey Pines ahead of his 2011 debut while golf rivals Lee Westwood and Ian Poulter tweeted some taunts.
Continuing a charm offensive that began with Woods joining the social networking medium last year, Woods made the Pittsburgh Steelers his Super Bowl pick over Green Bay and even poked fun at himself.
But he never answered the challenge of Poulter to post a photo of himself to prove it was indeed Woods who was issuing the messages nor commented on a tweet from world No 1 Westwood about fellow Englishman Poulter.
Neither Westwood nor Poulter will face Woods when the 14-time major champion tees off on Thursday at the $5.8 million Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines alongside fellow Americans Anthony Kim and Rocco Mediate.
Woods overcame a knee injury that would require surgery to defeat Mediate in an 18-hole playoff at Torrey Pines for the 2008 US Open title, but he has not won a major title since and has not won any event since his epic sex scandal erupted 14 months ago.
The Twitter exchange on Tuesday morning began when Woods posted an invitation to "followers": "Heading off to Torrey today, thought i'd answer a few questions".
Woods advised a pre-teen prodigy's father to have his son improve every year and plugged Augusta National Golf Club, home of the Masters, being on his new videogame, saying, "Incredible to have one of the most historic courses on planet in the game."
Poulter, an avid tweeter, took notice of the Woods offer and tweeted Westwood "What shall we ask him" then posted to Woods "come on tiger when are you going to join the lads for some banter".
After viewing a few answers, Poulter tweeted Westwood that he was dubious Woods was the man writing the tweets, teasing Woods by referring to the fact he had fallen to third in the world rankings on Monday, the lowest spot for Woods since he first claimed the top ranking.
"I'm not having it that No3 is writing his own tweets. He doesn't want to play," Poulter tweeted and Westwood quickly agreed.
"Everybody ask tiger to post a picture of himself now so we know it's him doing it," Poulter tweeted, later adding, "Tiger give us a smile, Tiger Tiger give us a smile. Tiger give us a smile. Come on. shall we sing a song for you."
Poulter then posted a picture of himself, taunting, "see it's easy take a picture and post it straight away. I'm having a cupa right now."
Westwood chimed in to Woods with a taunt of his own.
"Is it true you've dyed your hair Ginger, signed a deal with IJP (Ian James Poulter) clothing and bought a White Ferrari cos your (sic) in awe of Poults?" he said, using Poulter's nickname.
Woods, meanwhile, was responding to more mainstream fare, such as who was his choice to win the Super Bowl. The Stanford University alumnus went against the alum of rival California, Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodger.
"I'm picking the Steelers, can't pull for Rodgers he's a CAL guy," Woods tweeted.
Woods also replied when asked about comedian Dave Chappelle's portrayal of Woods in a comedy sketch seven years ago when "Woods" was selected by "blacks" with the top selection in a "Racial Draft" of multi-ethnicity celebrities.
"At least I was #1 pick back then, fo' shizzle," Woods tweeted.
Asked to choose between late rap stars Biggie Smalls and Tupac Shakur, Woods replied, "Tupac" then signed off.
His next public words are set to come at a Wednesday news conference.

Tevez refuses to come on as substitute
MUNICH, Germany - Argentine forward Carlos Tevez "is finished" as a Manchester City player after he refused to come on as a substitute during the 2-0 defeat by Bayern Munich in the Champions League on Tuesday, manager Roberto Mancini said.
The 27-year-old, who joined City from rivals Manchester United two years ago, ignored Mancini's instruction to warm up early in the second half.(http://wholesalegolfuk.com/
The matter will now have to be referred to City's owner, Sheikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan of Abu Dhabi, but his largely unprecedented behaviour left Mancini fuming and vowing never to pick him again.
Mancini, looking visibly shocked, told a news conference: "I am really disappointed because it is Carlos.
"This can't happen in a top club - to refuse to go in to help his teammates. What I said to Carlos is between me, him and the team.
"But if we want to improve as a team Carlos can't play with us. With me, he is finished."
There was some confusion at the time as to why Mancini brought on defensive midfielder Nigel de Jong instead of Tevez after 56 minutes with City trailing 2-0.
Mancini explained that he told the Argentine to get warmed up to come on with around 35 minutes to play, telling him that he believed he could help change their losing 2-0 position.
Mancini said: "He refused to warm up and again refused to go on the pitch. If a player has a lot of money to play for Manchester City ... he can't play, never."
TV pictures showed Tevez shrugging and shaking his head when one of City's coaching staff spoke to him on the bench.
Uneasy truce
Tevez has had an uneasy truce with City since angling for a move away from the club over the last year, citing family reasons.
He has only played one full match this season, in last week's win over Birmingham City in the League Cup.
He made a nine-minute appearance as a substitute in City's opening Champions League match two weeks ago against Napoli, and has also made two substitute appearances in the Premier League and started one game.
Tevez has never been far from controversy since moving to England and West Ham United with fellow Argentine Javier Mascherano in 2006, transfers that caused huge problems because their rights were owned by a third party, Media Sports Investments.
The issue, which dragged on for months, eventually saw West Ham being fined 5.5 million pounds ($9.0 million) by the Premier League and after one season at the Hammers Tevez joined Manchester United in 2007.
Although he was part of the United team that won the 2008 Champions League final against Chelsea in Moscow, he fell out with the club during the following season and joined United's rivals and neighbours City at the start of the 2009-10 season.
The deal, reported to have cost City around 32 million pounds, was also worth a reported 225,000 pounds in weekly wages to Tevez.
However, he soon let it be known he was unhappy in Manchester because he was missing his daughters in Argentina and came close to leaving the club in the close season despite May's FA Cup triumph. A proposed move back to Brazil and Corinthians broke down, though.
Tevez, when asked by Sky Sports News if he was finished at City for refusing to play, gave an inconsequential reply.
Speaking through an interpreter he said: "I have been a professional all the time I have been here and last season I was top scorer.
"Last season its true I wanted to leave because of family reasons, but I keep trying to do my best."
Manchester City assistant coach David Platt said: "I don't think anyone can condone a player refusing to get warmed up, no matter what has gone on on the bench, no matter what arguments there might have been. But I think we have got to look at it internally and deal with it.
"Right now it is very difficult for everybody. We need to calm down from the situation, at the same time as recognising that people want to talk about it."

Argentine forward Luciano Olguin, who plays for Chinese Super League's Tianjin Teda, had to miss the rest of the season due to a serious injury on his head and neck.
"Luciano received a successful surgery and is in stable condition now," said Tianjin's team manager Gao Songsen, who accompanied Luciano in the hospital, Sunday night.
"Doctor said he should remain in hospital for a week. After that we will transfer him to hospital in Tianjin," he said.
"The surgery was successful," said Luciano's physician. "But he has to stay in the ICU for two or three days more."
The 29-year old ace striker for Teda collided with Guangzhou Evergrande's defender head on head in the 65th minute of the Friday's match. The crash was so fierce that more than 45,000 fans in the stadium even smothered themselves at that moment.
"I could even hear the terrible cracking sound at that moment," a photographer near the spot said.
Luciano was diagnosed as fracture in his skull and cervical vertebrae, an injury could lead to disability as paralysis.
The first aids fastened his neck and sent him to a local hospital immediately. The surgery lasted nearly four hours.
Luciano joined Tianjin in July, 2010. Since then he scored 14 goals in 31 matches. He had previously played professional football for Racing Club and San Martin de San Juan in Argentina and Royal Antwerp FC in Belgium.
